2008 version of Apple Cup full of worms (AP)
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 14:20:55 PST-

Washington Football head coach Tyronne Willingham walks out of the tunnel to the field before the last home NCAA game against UCLA in Seattle, Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. Willingham, who is leaving as head coach after the season, takes his 0-10 team to meet cross-state rivals Washington Football State, who are 1-10, in the annual Apple Cup Saturday.

How about this for a marketing pitch: Come see the two worst teams in major college football. Try selling tickets to that. But that's the task facing folks at Washington Football (0-10) and Washington Football State (1-10) this week leading up to Saturday's rotten Apple Cup in Pullman -- a battle of ineptitude that will truly go down in history.

Washington Football Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 22:36:49 PST-

The Huskies don't have much left to play for this season.

But they insist that there is still something—the Apple Cup game against rival Washington Football State—as unappetizing a matchup as it may be this season.

"It's the Apple Cup, plus we haven't won (a game) yet, so that's a double (motivation)," said cornerback Mesphin Forrrester. "So it means a lot more."

Many in the state are tabbing it maybe the worst Apple Cup ever as the two teams are a combined 1-20 overall and 0-15 in Pac-10 play.

But UW players say the rivalry still has meaning, as does simply getting a victory.

"We have that hatred going on," said linebacker Donald Butler. "But we are trying to win a game.

Huskies getting ready to face woeful Cougars (AP)
Mon, 17 Nov 2008 16:49:25 PST-There's still a little passion left in Washington's otherwise forgettable season. Just mention rival Washington Football State. When asked about this Saturday's Apple Cup against the equally miserable Cougars, the seventh word out of linebacker Donald Butler's mouth on Monday was "hate." It might be the most passionate remark from any Washington Football player in weeks, and came from someone who grew up in...

Locker likely not to return in 2008 (AP)
Mon, 17 Nov 2008 13:11:44 PST-Washington Football coach Tyrone Willingham says injured quarterback Jake Locker is likely out for the rest of the season. Locker broke his right thumb against Stanford on Sept. 27. For weeks, Willingham left open the possibility Locker could return, but Monday said the quarterback won't play against Washington Football State in the Apple Cup on Saturday and is likely out against California on Dec.

He's Cheering for Both
Thu, 20 Nov 2008 21:46:05 GMT-"I think it'll be a great game," said linebacker L.T. Filiaga of this weekend's match-up between BYU and Utah. "From what I've seen, I think Utah will probably win it, but I'll be cheering for both. It's a big game and if Utah can pull it off I definitely think they deserve to be in a top BCS bowl." Filiaga believes he'd start early at either program and he may attend the game in Salt Lake City.

So why did the Husky cross the road?
Thu, 20 Nov 2008 21:46:04 GMT-BE ARMED. BE READY. Yes, Cougfans, even when they have but two victories to their credit, Husky partisans are still insufferable. That's why it's always nice to have a true Dawg tale in your back pocket just in case. So here you go: A compendium of Apple Cup jokes sure tickle the ol' funny bone.

Bears Offense Not So Hot Right Now
Thu, 20 Nov 2008 14:16:04 GMT-The Chicago Bears have lost two straight ballgames and fallen back into a tie for the NFC North lead, and the defense has been getting lambasted for playing so poorly. However, it isn't like the offense has been scoring points at will. Get the Inside Slant from the NFL experts at Scout.com.

By-The-Numbers: Apple Cup
Thu, 20 Nov 2008 09:46:02 GMT-SEATTLE - By-The-Numbers is back for a Bottom-10 feast at some statistical analysis you aren't likely to see ever again. Washington, winless in 10 games so far, is an 8.5 point favorite on the road in the 101st playing of the Apple Cup. That's not a typo. How is the only skunked team in D1 a favorite over anybody? Well, we aren't just talking about anybody: WSU is bad. As in record-setting bad.
